If you are just getting started with affiliate marketing you may be finding it tougher than you expected to generate sales and commissions. Don’t worry, you are not the only one! I also struggled to get any sales when I moved into affiliate marketing back in 2007.
However, I didn’t quit, but kept on studying successful affiliate marketers who had a lot more experience than me.
I kept on trying new things too. Every time I failed I also learnt something new, and slowly got better and better at not losing money (!) and then at building my online income.
So if you have been struggling to make a success of affiliate marketing on the Internet, I can help you avoid my mistakes and get better results more quickly.
Here are five things I learnt to do that have helped me to build my online affiliate sales and commissions over the last few years.
1. Blog With Your Visitors In Mind
You’ve got to have a blog! It is the place where you build your platform and communicate with your target market.
To succeed with a business blog, however, you need to think about things from the visitor’s point of view. Design your blog so that your visitors can find what they are looking for quickly and easily.
Put your heart and soul into filling it with useful content such as product reviews, tips and advice. That will help you to demonstrate your expertise and build trust with your target audience. Remember, trust is the key to generating sales.
2. Learn How To Work With Social Media
Twitter: For me, Twitter is the best social site to build a following and generate traffic to your blog. To get the best results with Twitter, make a point of engaging with other members. The best way to do that is to retweet other members’ tweets that add value for your own followers. That makes it more likely that some of your tweets will be retweeted too, helping you to build your following and your blog traffic.
Facebook: Create pages and groups that focus on the market you are selling in. You may need to spend some money promoting your pages on Facebook. Add a “like” widget to your blog to attract your visitors to your Facebook pages. (On HomeBizWeekly, I use the Facebook Social Plugin, which you can see top-right.)
Pinterest: Try to include a graphic or photograph with in every blog post. Memes are the best – images with messages on them. You can then pin the image to one of your Pinterest boards, and link back to your blog post.
Whichever social media outlets you use, the important thing is to notify them whenever you update your blog. Each one works in a different way, so fashion your updates to suit each of the networks you are posting on.
3. Offer Incentives
Remember, you are not the only Internet marketer selling affiliate products. You need to think about how to set yourself apart from the competition and add incentives to your marketing efforts.
One way to do that is to offer a free gift, free report, free training or a discount on a follow-up purchase. Here’s what I do to set myself apart as an SFI Team Leader from other SFI affiliates.
4. Use An Autoresponder To Build Your List
Post a newsletter subscription form on your blog. Offer a free report or any other attractive incentive you can think of, and invite your visitors to opt in to claim it.
Use your autoresponder service to keep in touch with your subscribers and let them know whenever you update your blog.
5. Constantly Seek To Add Value
Focus on making yourself more attractive to your target market by constantly looking for ways to add value through the content you post on your blog and the services you provide.
There are many other things you can do to build your affiliate marketing business. However, the five tips I have mentioned here are what you should focus on first of all. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via my contact form and I will get back to you.
